DAY 1 : My DSA Journey - Starting Recursion with Java

👋 Hey everyone!
After months of learning JavaScript and Web Development, I’ve also been quietly building my foundations in Data Structures and Algorithms (DSA) using Java.
This post marks the beginning of my commitment to learning DSA in public. I’ve already covered some essential fundamentals and I’m now diving into recursion — one of the most powerful and mind-bending topics in programming!
✅ What I’ve Learned So Far
🧮 Basic Math for DSA:
- Prime number check
- GCD, LCM
- Count digits, reverse number
- Number system basics
🔢 Arrays:
- Linear Search
- Binary Search
- Solved problems using iterative approaches
🔃 Sorting Algorithms:
- Bubble Sort
- Selection Sort
- Insertion Sort
- Understood time & space complexities
🔤 Strings:
- Character counting
- Reversing, palindrome check
- Frequency maps (manually — haven’t touched HashMaps yet)
🧠 Why I'm Learning DSA
- To think like a problem solver, not just a programmer
- To prepare for interviews and coding challenges
- To strengthen my core logic-building ability
- To become a better developer in general
🔁 Now Learning: Recursion
This week, I’ve started with recursion and it already feels like unlocking a new mindset.
- Understanding base cases and recursive calls
- Practicing problems like factorial, power of a number, reverse array recursively, and more
- Debugging recursive stack calls
🧭 My DSA Learning Plan
I’ll be working on:
- Recursion (basic to backtracking)
- Time and Space Complexity Analysis
- 2D Arrays and Matrix Problems
- Hashing and Maps
- Two Pointers, Sliding Window
- Linked Lists, Stacks, Queues, Trees, Graphs (step-by-step)
All in Java, as it helps me build strong object-oriented and typed programming habits.
